Idaco - Development and Communitary Action Institute is a NGO founded in 1988 with the objective to cooperate in the construction of a democratic and just society. Idaco recognizes, without losing the extent of daily reality and the actual needs of our people, that it is necessary to know how to articulate local and regional questions together with national and international matters.
It works mostly with peasants in alternative agriculture projects, training for income generation, environmental education and self sustained management of natural resources that are not renewable. Besides, it supports the commercialization of family agriculture production in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In urban areas, Idaco works with financing programs directed to inhabitants of low income communities, allowing them to get a job and a salary.
Considering that one of its priorities is the development of inter-institutional relationships in Brazil and abroad, Idaco is looking for technical information and solidarity exchange among different national and international organizations. Consequently, one of our most important characteristics is to work in partnership.
Part of Idaco's roots are in the trade union movement, taking into consideration its claims and the history of Idaco's founders. For this reason, our work deals with problems that reach the whole society nowadays.
We invite you to visit our home page and learn about our projects and performance, so that you can understand how we're trying to reach our most important goal: to get structural changes in Brazilian reality day by day.
